Udagama Village Situated near the Mipe Horana Area,Via Colombo Avissawella High level Road take up to Mipe Juction then turn off lead to Udagama Village through the paddy cultivated lands,This area surrounded by forest that main catchments area of Labugama & Kalatuwawa Tank, it’s covered 16,000 hectare,The agriculture village is typical of the wet zone vegetation,
We reached to place early part of the day around 7.45 am with interest to see butterflies since forest area accommodate to birding but we are not plan to move inside the forest due to butterfly enthusiasm, Observation carried out 8.00 am to 1.30 pm during the period 23 species of butterflies recorded which belong to four families namely Lycaenidae, Nymphalidae,Papilionidae & Papilionidae Family & Species count 5,12,5,1 each family respectively. its as follows
,Yamfly, Common Cerulean, Angled Pierrot, Indian Cupid, Plum Judy, Cruiser, Tamil Yeoman,Ceylon Lace Wing, Grey Pansy, Chocolate Soldier, Common Sailor, Clipper, Common Evening Brown, Cingalese Bushbrown, White Four-ring, Gladeye Bushbrown, Tree Nymph, Common Birdwing / Ceylon Birdwing, Ceylon Rose, Common Mormon, Blue Mormon, Blue Bottle, Jezebel
Most common Species are Ceylon Birdwing, Blue Mormon, Clipper, Grey Pansy, Chocolate Soldier, Common Sailor,As per our observation Nymphalidae Family dominating this area & Papilionidae is weakest, during the period we observe Birdwing & Clipper laying eggs further we saw on going attack between clipper & Blue Mormon that Clipper Badly attack Blue Mormon through out the day,
