These are situated Southern Province of Sri Lanka,it’s covering 10,100 hectare, The forest complex designated as a biosphere reserve in 2004 by UNESCO this is the large remaining rainforest in Sri Lanka other than Sinharaja. it’s Flora & fauna very similar to Singharaga world heritage, elevation range From 60m to 430m above the sea level, average temperature 27c,rain fall 3,750mm per annum recording this forest complex, controlling by Department of forest conservation,
 
This is the main catchments area of Gin River & Nilwala River, Kanneli, Nanikiththa and Udugama are the smaller streams of Kanneliya while Homa dola and Gal bandi dola are sourced by Nakiyadeniya and Deiyagala.
 Lowland endemic birds such as Ceylon Rufous Babbler ,scarce endemic species such as the Serendib Scops Owl are present. Mammals likely to be seen are, Grizzled Indian   and   Layard's Striped Squirrel. The southern race of the endemic Purple-faced Leaf Monkey can also be seen. Endemic lizards   seen, include the Rough-nosed Horned and Hump-nosed Lizard. Butterflies include Tree Nymphs and Commanders. The Gal Karandha (Humboldtia laurifolia) is common. It has hollow stems in which ants live, an example of a symbiotic relationship
Access to this forest comples , From Galle, take the Udugama Road (B129) to Udugama Continue towards Hiniduma  and the turn-off to Kanneliya is after the 3 km poston the B429.
