It was very saddening to hear that three pachyderms were killed when they were knocked down by a night train in the Anuradhapura district last week.
Could the engine driver of the train involved in the mishap be held responsible in any way for the deaths of wild animals? An engine driver has no control when even human beings disregard warning signals at railway crossings.
